A woman who claims to be a psychology and marketing expert has found that ordinary user restaurants use to manipulate you to spend more money.
Basia, known as @everupmarketing online, recently posted a video tiktok by exposing some of the ways you can be unconsciously convinced to do exactly what the restaurant staff wants you.
“Think you are making your choices at a restaurant? Cute,” it withdrew it in the title.
“You are nudged. Primed and manipulated from the moment you go inside.”
She explained that everything from the menu modeling to the temple of music is set to “influence” your decisions.
For example, while there may be a menu item that is much higher than others, it is not precious. It’s there to make other costs look like a good deal.
She also noted that if you walk up to the cashier’s counter and see that there is money in the type jar, a client is likely to feel forced to add it, thinking it is a custom. However, Basia claims that the staff is likely to fill the collection box itself to put you pressure.
Another trick she discovered is that the daily handwritten written in a sign is likely to be “special” for several weeks. But the staff is hoping that the handmade sign will make you believe it is “limited, fresh and rare”.
Has your server ever approached your table by asking if you want calm or carbonated water? This is intended to lead you to choose one of the options – likely – instead of drinking water without tap.
Once you take a look at the menu, you may not see the coin symbols near the price. As we all know that we will have to pay it at the end of the meal, Basia shared that “because ’24 £ ‘screaming money. But 24 just looks like a number.”
As you enjoy your food, you are likely to get the environment with every bite – which is exactly what the staff hopes to do.
Basia said “they play slower music when it’s quiet – and faster music when it’s full … because Tempo Slow makes you stay longer. The quick tempo makes you eat and leave.”
The self-proclaimed expert explained that “these are no coincidences-they are the psychological tactics of obedience”, which she claimed that “the best restaurants use without ever noticing”.
“Because when you feel like your decision, you will not question it.”
