Now, this is a farm system!
Dana Cavalea once trained Yankees as the director of the force and air conditioning team, even helping to capture the world series in 2009. Now, he is cultivating his dream field.
“For years, my background in sports was helping athletes derives good quality food,” Cavalea, 42, told The Post. “I just thought,” Well, which way better to stem quality food than to grow yours? “”
Despite the earlier experience of agriculture, Cavalea and his wife, Lauren, bought 180 hectares in the small green town of Green and operated a direct meat business on the consumer.
Freedom Farms is creating an influx of orders thanks to Robert F. Kennedy Jr. Make Health Movement, which highlights natural and complete foods.
“I have run other businesses before, and I have not seen anything like this,” said Dana, who worked with Yankees from 2002 to 2014, trained business leaders and wrote “the customs of a champion”.
An organic journey
The Coupleifi, who grew up in the Long Island and moved to Florida, encountered the farm while checking local real estate during a 2020 break.
“We met this woman who was the owner of the farm, who was in the 80’s, who was looking to cross the torch,” Dana recalled. “She gave us a three-hour tournament on property.”
Three months later, the land was theirs.
Dreamndra of a summer house eventually evolved after Cavaleas saw the business potential – though they did not have enough cows for a home team.
“I’ve used this whole method of baptism-by fire all my life,” Dana said.
The Coupleifi worked the land, rebuilt the barn and facilities, collaborated with local farmers and spoken 150 cattle heads. Launched meat venture in 2022.
Now, freedom farms boast over 15,000 clients, mostly conservative workers with blue collar and military veterans. A submission Van NYC services, Long Island, Westchester, Connecticut and New Jersey.
They specialize in prime minister fed grass -fed, without added hormones.
The grass-fed beef tends to have a higher concentration of nutrients such as omega-3 fatty acids, conjugated linoleic acid (CLA), vitamin E and beta-carotene than beef fed less calories and less fat to launch.
While the farm on the table is often more expensive than grocery store cuts, Cavaleas said the difference is clear.
“We never bought meat from a farm,” Dana said. “So, to our surprise, when we first did it, the taste was certainly much different. And … when you cooked the burgers and when you cooked the meat, they kept their size and they held their shape.”
Increasing pain
As with any beginning, and in baseball, there were high and low levels.
“I’m really turned into Beth Dutton,” said Lauren, 42, referring to the “Yellowstone” antihero.
“Slickers City”, sometimes, have run from the very prone, very old-old-club “community.
But their “Contrary” marketing strategy, which involves sharing pro-trump messages and posting email written by “Rogue Vegans”, has helped them keep over 70% of their clients.
Politics aside, unpredictable weather and high operating expenses in the sky have been difficult. Cavaleas rating they require $ 250 daily to feed their cows, $ 1,350 a week for pigs and $ 500 a month for egg laying chickens.
“When you start joining all these costs, it would be like feeding a large family, except that our family is livestock,” Dana said. “We basically feed a family of 500 every day.”
Food production costs are also astronomical, from carriers to local food mill and order holders.
“So when you start seeing the meat in the store for about $ 4, $ 5, $ 6, you’re like,” How do they do? “” Dana withdrew. “And that’s what I think has appreciated many small farms outside the game.”
On the horizon
The acquisition of a US Department of Agriculture Department was not part of Cavalea’s initial vision, but now they want to “control the process even more from start to finish”.
“That is, and will continue to be, our biggest obstacle in business, because these slaughterhouses, they will not eliminate all their other clients in order to meet your needs,” Dana said.
Meanwhile, they are working to feed and build their loyal base.
Free-year-old freedom feast, set for September 13, will have a pork baking, BBQ, live music, tours, travel and games.
“The goal is to continue to bring new clients to the system, serve those clients well, grow year by year, see the value of business creation and brands to become valuable,” Dana said.
If you until that, they will come.
