What is OCD ‘Pure O’? Luke Combs opens for ‘wicked’ disorder

Luke Combs is raising the veil in his eternal battle with a “particularly wicked” shape of obsessive-compulsive disorder.

The country’s music star recently opened for his battle with pure obsessive, or pure OCD, which causes ruthless, irrational thoughts – including some passing into violent territory.

“When it hits, man, it can be anything you consume,” told the combs “60 minutes Australia” in an interview. “If you have a ignition … You can think of this 45 seconds of every minute for weeks.”

OCD, which affects 2% to 3% of Americans, is marked by constant thoughts, intervention and recurring behavior. The exact number of people with pure subtype O is unknown, but an estimate suggests that up to 10% of those with the UK OCD experience this particular form.

While most people associate OCD with physical rituals, such as excessive hand washing or touching objects a specific number of times, those with pure O are haunted by unwanted, uncontrollable thoughts and internal obligations that remain largely invisible, according to Mind many.

“They cause you stress, and then you’re stressed, and then stress makes you more thoughts, and then you don’t understand why you have them, and you are trying to get rid of them, but trying to get rid of them makes you more of them,” Combs said.

Although pure O patients do not exhibit obvious physical behavior, they often use mental rituals to prove to alleviate the anxiety caused by their obsessions. These obligations can include repeated memories or past conversations, silent repetitions of mantra and mental lists.

Obsessive thoughts themselves can vary a lot as well. “I will worry that I will make a heart attack or a stroke, and it becomes a very obsessive thing that you can never have answers,” split the combs.

For many pure people, they ignite ruthless, worrying thoughts to harm themselves or others. Some are overwhelmed by strong anxiety about religion, destroyed by fear of sin, while others fight with doubts about their sexual orientation.

People with pure subtypes often report by experiencing deep feelings of guilt and shame caused by their intrusive thoughts, which can significantly affect their own sense of themselves.

“They will identify with thought and feel convinced that they reveal something who they are as human beings,” said Dr. Nicholas Farrell, Director of Clinical Development and Programming at NOCD. They can think, I just had a dream to harm someone – it means I have to be a violent person. “

Combs, 35, has been dealing with puree o since he was 12 years old. While he said he is “really good” in managing the disorder now, he recently suffered his “worst flaming” in years while in the tournament.

“Really really tiring to withdraw from her,” the man and father of two said. He added that he has become a “expert” in managing these episodes.

“It”s strange, suck it. I hate it. I crazy, but … the less worry about having thoughts, eventually they go away,” Combs said. “You give some belief what the thoughts are are irrelevant and only the fuels you have more of them.”

Treatment for OCD often includes therapy, but there are self-help strategies that can facilitate the control of pure O. relaxation techniques such as deep breathing and meditation of the mind, along with aerobic exercises, have been proven to be effective.

Medicines, such as selective serotonin recovery inhibitors, which increase serotonin levels in the brain, can also provide relief.

Although the Combs is now equipped with coping mechanisms, he admits that it was not always this way.

“I definitely want to spend some time in a moment of my life making some approaches that the kids dealing with this,” he said. “Hold me back so many times in my life, where you are trying to achieve something, you are doing really well and then you have a ignition and it ruins your life for six months.”
