If you are looking to promote your love life this Valentine’s Day, GOOP has a suggestion – but will return you $ 195.
Gwyneth Paltrow’s lifestyle and wellness company presented “The Prim” to its Valentine’s Gift Guide this year, claiming that the sexy taboo pillow will make your intimate moments more comfortable and enjoyable.
But do you really have to expect big money for better sex? The post spoke with three experts to get the end of sex pillows and if the recommendation of goop really applies to spraying.
What is a sexy pillow?
A sexy pillow is a strong pillow, often with angle designed to make those intimate moments slightly more enjoyable.
“Regular pillows are not designed to maintain their shape or support during sex,” said Dr. Heather Jeffcoat, owner of physical feminine therapy in Los Angeles and author of Painless sex: a self -treatment guide for sex life. “While you can definitely create something, like stacking three or four pillows to make a modified ramp, it may or may not provide the support you need.”
Unlike your average pillow, most sex pillows are made of high density foam that can hold its shape under your body weight. They come in different shapes and sizes, but the most popular types are wedges and ramps.
“The wedge pillow is great for raising the thighs and thighs to mitigate discomfort,” said Dr. Debra Laino, a clinical sexologist certified by the Board and Relationship Therapist. “Rampe -shaped pillows still have a wedge elevator, but they are often bigger to help back support.”
Laino noted that some sexy pillows even have an integrated space to keep a sex toy for handsless or solo pleasure. These are often called a mountain of sex.
What are the benefits of using a sexy pillow?
Experts agree: a sex pad can make the whole change, especially if you are among those in three women who report that they experience pain during intercourse.
“These pillows help make positions lighter or more comfortable, and can help in deeper penetration allowing more relaxation of the lower back floor muscles, hip and pelvis,” Jeffcoat said.
They also work wonders for those who deal with the challenges of mobility, injuries or age -related body changes. They can even help pregnant women find positions that are safe and satisfying.
“Good sex is about the angles,” said Dr. Megan Fleming, a New York City -based psychologist and sex therapist. “For some people, a sexy pillow can bring positions that had become uncomfortable by providing the support and angles they need.”
Jeffoat said sex pillows often come with suggested positions, but it recommended to consult a physical pelvic health therapist on the most effective way to use them if you have specific needs.
“For example, if you need to keep your back bent or stuck during sexual intercourse or intimacy to facilitate your spine discomfort, you can use a large wedge, with your pelvis up in its thicker part, by allowed the knees to be bent and the legs in the bed or the ground or pulled toward your chest, ”Jeffcoat said.
Meanwhile, “a ramp will be better in limiting the hip flexion, which is important if you have hip, a hip lab, hip arthritis or the latest hip surgery,” she added.
Is it really “primary” really worth the price of $ 195?
“While ‘The Prim’ is a beautiful pillow, others work just as well for less,” Laino said. But “if you want to spray, ‘Prim’ is a good option. It is strong, wedge -shaped and has a removable cover, as most do, so you can wash it.”
Fleming said Prim’s measured design is another point of sale. “If you are a New Yorker and full of space, you may like the idea you can simply have on your bed all the time,” she said.
The pillow design also adds convenience. “You get home and you can feel more spontaneous, against planning your erotic adventure and drawing everything you might want to include,” Fleming added.
If you are not yet completely sold on a sexy pillow, Fleming recommends start with a more friendly budget option, like this Inflatable wedge from Love Honey at $ 49.99.
“Try it at a lower price point, and then if you feel like ‘Oh my Lord, I really love this,” then makes sense if you want to invest in a higher quality version, “she said.
How can I take care of my sex pillow?
Let’s admit: sex can become messy. Fortunately, most sex pillows are washed by car or come with a removable cover for easy cleaning.
Experts recommend washing your pillow after each use, especially if you are sharing it with multiple partners, to avoid building bacteria and spreading infections.
Fleming also suggests that people involved in activities such as water sports or use products such as massage oil take additional precautions to extend their pillow life and keep their bed clean.
“Some people can get into their heads for sheets and pillows, so rejecting a water -driven sex blanket is a good way to go so you can relax in experience,” she said. “This is important because, after all, relaxation is the foundation of awakening.”
When your pillow is not in use, Laino recommends storing it in a clean, dry place from the floor and away from anything that can accommodate bacteria, like a damp bathroom. “Also also a good idea to keep the pillow away from children and animals, as it is not a toy nor a regular pillow to lay down,” she said.
As for the storage of wedge pillows and ramps, Jeffcoat suggests putting them on their longer or thicker side. “Never store a wedge pillow with pressure on the thin wedge part, as this will distort the shape of the wedge over time,” she said.
Does sex have health benefits?
Research suggests that the American average has sex about once a week – and it turns out, they are reaping more benefits than just pleasure.
“A healthy sex life is extremely important for well -being,” Laino said. “There are many hormones released during sex that are important for the body and brain such as dopamine, oxytocin and endorphins – all feel good chemicals.”
Physical intimacy has also been shown to reduce stress, improve cardiovascular health, boost the immune system and even cognitive warfare, according to Jeffoat.
When it comes to romantic relationships, physical intimacy can also play a crucial role in the relationship.
“When your sex life is going well, it’s a small part of the relationship. When this is not the case, it can cause disturbances and kind of shade relationships as a whole, ”Fleming said.
“This is not to shame those who are not a lot of sexual or in a sex -free marriage. For some, it is a lifestyle choice, but for others, sex is an important part to stay connected and experience pleasure with your partner. “
