Plastic surgeon reveals the most popular procedures for men

Switching above, ladies – men are increasingly crossing the knife to improve their appearance, using a new bold trend that is tightening the aesthetic industry.

The US Academy of Plastic and Reconstructive Facial Surgery (AAFPRS) released its 2024 survey results this week, revealing that a 92% hit of its surgeons treated male patients last year, with 5% of 2023 .

The post spoke to Dr. Patrick J. Byrne, president of AAFPRS, to discuss the trend that thrives “human-aesthetics”, from the most popular procedures to the issues that lead men to the table of operation.

“Men, like women, want to maintain a youthful, healthy and refreshed look and with so many minimal invasive options, more men are embracing measured, healing treatments than ever before,” said Byrne, who is Even the head chair and the Department of Surgery in the Neck at the Cleveland Clinic in Ohio.

Popular treatments

Blefaroplasty, rhinoplasty and faces topped the list of the most common procedures for male patients last year, according to the AAFPRS survey.

Byrne believes that increased interest among men is associated with people who live longer and want their appearance to match the youthful energy they feel from within

“Today, patients have more flexibility with homework and rest time ability, so it is not surprising that men are looking for these types of operations for the same reasons as women – to reduce the noise in the face of Lower, improve the calm of the neck, raise the upper face, ”he said.

Facelift and cure for turkey neck

In particular, facelifs continue to be a key element in facial renovation, with nearly 90% of AAFPR members performing them every year. In particular, the tendency is becoming younger, with the number of patients aged 35-55 years old who rise from as low as 26% to 32% in recent years.

For many men, the Byrne pointed out, the main concern is neck versatility, or what is commonly known as the “neck of Turkey”.

As people grow old, the neck muscles weaken, and the skin loses collagen and elastin – the main ingredients that provide structure and support. This loss leads to loose and dependent skin, which can blur the line between the jaw and the neck.

“A lower face is really the golden standard for creating a more defined jaw,” Byrne said.

When performing a relief of male patients, Byrne explained that surgeons are mainly concentrated on the lower face-especially the marionette lines, the jaw, the sub-cirk area, the jawls and the neck. He stressed that surgeons should be careful when addressing the upper third of the face to men.

“We all know about celebrities that seem unnatural,” Byrne said. “This is usually not from a lower face and necklace, but rather by the treatment of eyebrows, and/or eyelids.”

Eyelids

Blefaroplasty, or eyelid surgery, is also gaining significant withdrawal between men, with an increasing number that chooses the procedure to refresh their appearance, according to the survey.

There are two types of blephalaroplasty. An upper blephalaroplasty removes excess skin on the eyelids, helping to reduce the hooded, tired appearance that naturally develops with age. A lower bleplasty targets the fat tables under the eyes, softening the bags under the eyes for a more youthful and restrained appearance.

“Both are common procedures that offer high satisfaction with the patient and for men who want to look less tired and refreshed, this operation gives,” Byrne said.

Recovery for both procedures usually lasts one to two weeks, offering men a relatively fast road to search for more refreshed without time.

More hair, less wrinkles

In particular, the AAFPRS survey revealed that hair transplantation stands as the only procedure where men significantly overcome women, reflecting a strong desire to address hair loss and maintain a youthful look.

But it is not just about switching under the knife. Byrne said son-surgical treatments such as botox, fillers, mahogany, micronedling and radiofrequencies are growing in popularity among men.

“Men are embracing aesthetic maintenance in a way we haven’t seen before,” he said.

Looking forward, Bryne predicts that the regenerative drug will be the next big thing in the aesthetics industry.

“Treatments such as platelet -rich plasma (PRP) and exosome -based therapies are gaining traction, providing patients with minimal invasive options aimed at aiming for cellular level to renovate and repair the skin,” Bryne said.

In particular, exosoma therapies are generating buzzing, with a surgeon one in-four AAFPRP predicting that they will become a major force in the future of aesthetic medicine.
