Is called maternity leave – Not maternity sitting at home.
After birth, an anxious Esther Draycott, 31, was not ready to spend perfectly paid time, talking to her newborn – on the contrary, the UK professional midwife captured her growing family and departed for in Southeast Asia.
“Many people thought our plans were crazy,” Mom told Luxury Travel every day. “I don’t think they believed we were moving forward with him until we reserved the fighting.”
Tightening only a check bag to hold it, husband Daniel, 13-year-old daughter Bella and Baby Reuben dressed for their six-month adventure, the adventurous crew announced their 11-seat itinerary to their family and headed for at the airport.
“[The idea to travel the world came after our] honeymoon in Thailand. “[Daniel and I] He fell in love with Southeast Asia and realized that we had not seen enough life and world, said the National Health Service worker.
“We wanted to do some traveling on their own, but it was impossible. I saw an online post for another NHS [new mom] who was traveling during maternity break [and felt inspired]”Esther was about Esther.
“We did not reserve the flights until Reuben was born and we knew we were both healthy enough to travel,” she said.
Relatives were disappointed, she admitted, for the loss of so much of Reuben’s first year. But they were supportive, saying they were happy about her “amazing opportunity”.
“My biggest fear was our health while we are far away, but I was treated for a sinus infection and private health care here is extraordinary and I was assured that we received a very comprehensive travel insurance if we needed it,” She shared.
“I’m also breast -feeding Reuben, so I know he’s getting a lot of antibodies – and I don’t have to worry about creating or sterilizing the bottles,” she continued.
To make the journey happen, Daniel took a Saturday from his engineering work and received approval from Bella’s school – after being pleased that the trip would be educational for the young man.
As reported by what is blocking, the couple are relying on savings and some inheritance money. They left soon after Reuben’s birth last June, and were already in Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos and Thailand.
They will be on the road until April, with stops in Malaysia, South Africa and the Maldives to come.
And despite the negative comments she has received both in line and offline – the peripheral parent runs an Instagram account documenting their trips – Esther believes the whole thing has been “amazing” for developing her baby.
“There is a feeling of baby wherever we go with all the different sights, fragrances and sounds. He fortunately sleeps on his carrier and loves all the attention he receives from the locals. He is such a happy and quiet child, ”she said.
“We plan our activities to avoid the heat of the noon and we reserve our accommodation one or two days in advance, which gives us the flexibility to stay determined and rest if we feel the need. We know he will not remember the journey but We feel lucky enough to spend every day together as a family when he is growing so fast. ”
While for some experienced parents, the concept can be a full nightmare, Esther says the whole thing has been a relative breeze.
“It has been much easier than we envisioned. There are a few days or boring nights where he wakes up a lot, but being away does not make him more difficult, ”she suggested.
In fact, Esther encourages others to experience the extreme experience of family connection, saying people may be surprised how little they need for a trip like this.
“We planned so carefully what we would pack, but we didn’t need most of it or we could have bought it here. We would have packaged less if we knew,” she said.
And she hopes her experience ultimately help others follow her steps.
“When I was looking for advice and trying to research by traveling with a child, I couldn’t find much,” she said.
“I built faith by seeing another woman on social media and blogs who are doing the same. It would be good if sharing our experience could help families travel,” Esther excitedly.
“We’re spending an amazing time and take them all as it comes.”
