A mother who kidnapped her teenage daughter’s teacher for reading her private diary has received mixed reactions.
“Am I an a-hole for ripping off my daughter’s teacher?” the UK-based parent, 45, wrote in a viral Reddit post uploaded to the platform’s ever-popular AITA forum.
The woman – who goes by Lopsided_Shine_7866 on the platform – said her 13-year-old daughter had struggled socially, so she encouraged her to keep a journal to process “bad feelings”.
“She has loved the journal, writing in it multiple times a day, and of course, I don’t control what she writes, as it is her personal property,” the Redditor writes.
Writing down her emotions was working wonders – until one day when the teenager accidentally left her bag outside and her teacher found the notebook.
The educator, who was in his mid-30s, reportedly did not like what he read and decided to confront the student about “leaving her bag behind” and “the foul language she used in her diary”, according to the post.
“Now, I want to be clear that I don’t encourage my daughter to use foul language, but if she decides to do so in her diary, I can’t stop her – nor should I?” explained the parent. “And that’s me as her mother—so imagine how inappropriate that is for a teacher!”
When her progeny came home in tears over the teacher’s tongue-lashing, the Redditor “called the school immediately and asked to speak to her.”
She then proceeded to rip the educator a “new” and inform him that she would remove her child from his class and inform the principal.
The parent then called one of her friends to “vent” about the bitter experience, but didn’t get the sympathy she expected.
“To my absolute friend, she criticized me for treating a new teacher so badly that he was probably still learning what he was allowed to do and that I should be grateful that he took the time to treat my daughter specially,” she wrote. she.
