This 2-Ingredient Amish Sore Throat Remedy ‘Works Every Time’

A former Amish reality TV star has taken to TikTok to share a simple sore throat home remedy favored by the Mennonite community.

Milo (@floridaboy920), who was born and raised Amish and appeared on the most recent season of Discovery Channel’s “Naked and Afraid,” offered his two-ingredient solution to his 233,000 followers.

“If your throat is on fire and cough drops and cough syrup won’t clear it up, I have a home remedy for you.”

Milo explained that home remedies are common among the Amish people who favor DIY treatments over visits to the doctor’s office.

“What we will need for this remedy is some white vinegar and some water. Get yourself a cup and pour in half water and then half white vinegar so you get a fifty-fifty mix.

Milo instructed his followers to mix the mixture well and then gargle until their sore throats subsided.

“I’ve done this when I’ve had a bad sore throat and it’s worked every time,” he promised.

The comments section suggests that Milo is true to his word. “Laying in bed with a sore throat and just jumped out of bed to try and let me tell you it 100% works,” reported one user.

“You are doing God’s work! I just did this and I feel so relieved,” said another.

Vinegar has been used as an infection fighter since ancient times, most notably by Hippocrates, the father of medicine. He used it to treat wounds and create oxymel, a mixture of honey and vinegar used to relieve persistent coughs, an ancient remedy that continues to be used today.

Modern white vinegar is usually produced by the alcoholic fermentation of wheat; this type of alcoholic beverage is not naturally rich in nutrients, so additives such as yeast and phosphates are often added to speed up the fermentation process.

Generally, the solution contains 4-7% acetic acid and 93-96% water.

Because of its antimicrobial properties, vinegar can kill bacteria and some viruses and treat yeast infections.

As The Post previously reported, a tablespoon of white vinegar diluted in water and swallowed before meals has been shown to boost energy, manage glucose and curb food cravings.

Further, scientists at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine discovered that the acetic acid in vinegar can kill effectively. Mycobacterium tuberculosis, that causes tuberculosis (TB), making vinegar a non-toxic and affordable treatment for one of the most contagious diseases worldwide.

While vinegar exhibits antibacterial and antimicrobial properties, its efficacy in treating human sore throats remains uncertain.

Milo also recently went viral on TikTok for his “Amish amoxicillin” recipe.

This mixture includes apple cider vinegar, pineapple, ginger, turmeric, garlic, onion, lemon, cayenne pepper, black pepper and honey.

Dilution and moderation are essential when using white or apple cider vinegar, as the acidity in an undiluted or large dose can cause tooth enamel erosion, indigestion and throat burning.

Further, vinegar may interact with certain medications such as insulin, diuretics, and those used to treat heart disease.

Experts warn that while vinegar can relieve a sore throat, it should not replace professional medical advice or treatment.
