A state-of-the-art spine center from one of New York City’s top hospitals opened today in the new luxury Hudson Yards skyscraper.

Och Spine at NewYork-Presbyterian/The Spiral occupies the entire second floor of The Spiral, which opened last year.

With an area of 50,000 square feet, the spine center has 33 exam rooms, six procedure rooms and a 2,000 square foot rehabilitation gym.

It is staffed by experts from Columbia University Irving Medical Center and Weill Cornell Medicine, who will be seeing patients in the same location for the first time.

NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital-Columbia and Cornell ranked first in US News & World Report’s 2024 ranking of New York City’s best hospitals. It was tied in a four-way tie with Mount Sinai Hospital, University Hospital North Shore at Northwell Health in Manhasset and NYU Langone Hospitals.

Och Spine also has locations on the Upper East Side and in Inwood and Washington Heights.

The new outpatient facility has areas for physical therapy, surgical and non-surgical procedures and radiology, complete with MRI machines, CT scanners, X-ray machines and an EOS machine, which creates 2D and 3D X-rays with low-dose radiation.

Patients can see multiple specialists in a single visit. Out-of-center practitioners include orthopedic surgeons and neurologists, neurologists, physical medicine and rehabilitation physicians, pain management specialists, radiologists, and physical therapists.

“This beautiful state-of-the-art facility is matched with world-class experts who will work side by side to provide comprehensive and personalized spine care,” Dr. Steven J. Corwin, president and CEO of NewYork-Presbyterian, said.

Dr. Lawrence Lenke, co-director of Och Spine at NewYork-Presbyterian and chief of spine surgery at NewYork-Presbyterian/Columbia Irving University Medical Center, said the center “will allow us to care for the full spectrum of patients with backbone – locally, regionally, nationally and internationally – and help them get back into their lives and communities.”

The new center – funded in part by the Jane and Daniel Och Family Foundation, which contributed $50 million – will treat conditions including scoliosis, spinal deformities, spinal injuries, degenerative spinal diseases and pain neck and back.

NewYork-Presbyterian signed a 20-year lease with Tishman Speyer, which paid $438 million for The Spiral site in 2014 and financed the project for $3.7 billion in 2018.

The spiral is also home to HSBC, SEB Group, Debevoise & Plimpton, a law firm, Alliance Bernstein, an investment company, and Pfizer.

The top floor of the building is home to ZO, a club lounge with an open-air terrace, pool tables and a cafe.
