Andrea Konovalske’s modeling journey at New York Fashion Week came with a small one crash on the road.
Her baby bump.
“I was extremely excited to be chosen to walk during NYFW, [but] I was admitted before I found out I was pregnant with baby no. 3, Konovalske, 34, mother of two and budding model, told The Post.
She and her baby-to-be made their fashion week debut for ethereal label Homespun Heart in September.
“Having a baby in my womb was honestly the most comforting part of the experience,” Konovalske said.
A newcomer to the city’s chicest soirée, the married millennial is among the growing number of model moms-to-be to hit the runways and work the camera while pregnant.
But hot moms like Konovalske aren’t doing it in maternity hospitals. They are taking the floor in high fashion.
Pushing their six-inch heels into age-old notions that a woman’s biggest part is being “barefoot and pregnant” in the kitchen, professional pinups are proving that motherhood isn’t the end of a model’s career. The extended changes in their physique notwithstanding.
Instead, it’s the start of a new era of inclusion in high fashion.
Bloated bellies and newborn babies have dominated designer spaces since the dawn of the year.
Maddie Moon hit the Collina Strada runway ready at 32 weeks pregnant during NYFW in February.
Turning heads first, the model – who welcomed a daughter, Ocean, in March – hails the avant-garde experience as “surreal”.
“It’s so cool that one day I get to show my daughter that. We did this together,” Moon, 32, a designer in NYC, tells The Post. “It was empowering.”
The knockout, who signed a deal with Ford Models in 2001 at the age of 9, went on to praise Hillary Taymour, the founder and creative director of Collina Strada, for bringing the hot bun beauty to the spotlight.
“Hilary and [photographer Charlie Engman] set the topic [for the show] like ‘stronger,’ which totally resonated with me,” Moon said. “If being a mom isn’t strong, then I don’t know what is.”
Taymour tells The Post, “We always want to celebrate the deep skill of motherhood through casting.”
And enceinte are fast becoming fashionable across the globe.
Carmen Kass, 46, turned heads at Paris Fashion Week in October when she premiered her luxe-looking statement bag by Christopher Esber and Vetements.
Veteran Victoria’s Secret model Gisele Bünchchen, 44, even posed for several luxury projects before rumors of her latest pregnancy broke last month.
The industry icon, a mother of two teenagers she shares with ex-husband Tom Brady, is expecting her first bundle of joy with new boyfriend Joaquim Valente.
Kara Bieber, a rising beauty model based in Southern California, is grateful to the fashion giants for paving the way for glamorous pre-teens like her.
“They’re showing the world that women are badass who can do it all,” said Bieber, 26, currently in his second trimester with a son. “Being pregnant and having kids doesn’t mean our careers are over.”
“We’re just getting bigger, badder and better.”
But the blonde bombshell, a small business owner and wife of MLB pitcher Shane Bieber, admits modeling while housing a little man has its challenges.
“I’m nauseous on set, ‘nauseous is real,'” said Bieber, who is in awe of RMS Beauty’s campaigns and hopes to soon do the same for Skims and Sports Illustrated Swimsuit.
“I have to take a snack break like every 30 minutes,” she continued with a laugh, adding that fruit and bagels are her favorite snacks. “I am tired and my body hurts. But I love what I do and I am following my dreams for myself and my child.
Maisie Lay, a commercial model preparing to welcome a baby boy, agrees.
“I hope my passion for modeling during pregnancy will teach him to appreciate women and be optimistic about his dreams,” said Lay, 26, of Utah.
Although she admits that striking a pose for photographers is “not easy” at six months pregnant “due to her elongated midsection, constant calls for bathroom breaks and extended bouts of morning sickness “, Lay says he wouldn’t have. in some other way.
“I will never stop modeling as long as I can,” vowed the mom-to-be, who has starred in campaigns for Kizik shoes, Poppy & Pout lip balm and DIME Beauty for ULTA.
“Pregnant bodies are also beautiful bodies.”
