While it would seem that New York’s beloved Bagel Shop has returned, there is much more for this story.
When the absolute Bagels in the upper part of the West Side were closed at the end of last year, the New Yorkers were left heartbroken and mourning in the joining of Bagel, which had made its mark on the many best lists throughout the 30-year-old.
Now, a sign for a Bagel shop has returned to the shop in 2788 Broadway, between West 107 and 108 roads.
“Reopening: Absolute New Bagel,” read the flag outside the closed store, along with an image of a cream cheese bagel.
But despite the location, the words “reopen” and the name that implies that it is a new version of the same union, the absolute new Bagel has nothing to do with the original absolute Bagel.
Rafe Evans, Walker’s property broker, Malloy & Company, told the West Side Rag again when the absolute Bagel was initially closed that it was his advantage to keep the shop a Bagel shop.
“I have rented [Absolute Bagel owner] Sama [Thongkrieng] 30 years ago, he has gone now [leaving the space] And it’s my job to rebuild the store, “Evans Rag told.” And we all agree another Bagel store is the highest advantage and the best use of space. “
While the goal of keeping it a space for New Yorkers to get their loving bagels was a success, Evans told The Outlet this week that new owners have nothing to do with the thongkreng family and are “no household names” – though they operate a small number of Bagel’s New York and New Jersey stores. No other specification or details were given.
Evans was also surprised by the name in the mark, saying Pix11, “We were surprised to see that they are calling themselves absolute new bagel. We understand why they are doing it.”
Although he told the neighborhood blog, I love the upper part of West that they are not sure if this is the official name or if it is “just a country holder”.
But Evans expects everything else to be different – including Bagels.
“They will rebuild it from scratch. They need everything. Floors, walls, ceilings, works,” he shared. “Sam, the former owner, was asked if he wanted to sell his recipes, and he said someone could make a bagel.”
Thongkreng, a Thai immigrant, first opened the absolute Bagels in 1992 after working on ESS-A-Bagel. Closed last December due to health violations.
Absolut Bagels jumped 67 points from the city’s health department due to violations that included “evidence of mice or living mice” and “live roaches”, which required immediate closure.
The point of the mouse was found in food preparation, storage and service areas and sugar packages under the bagel counter were clearly excavated from annoying criteria, inspectors said at the time.
Broken heart customers were desperate to get a last bagel after the unexpected closure, with lists of bageling appearing on eBay for up to $ 50.
