The cardiologist warns that the drug prescribed is usually toxic to the heart

This small pill – taken from adults and children alike – can simply be a recipe for heart disease.

Dr. Evan Levine is an experienced cardiologist at Scarsdale, New York who also runs a very well -known Tiktok channel, where he becomes true to everything, from heart attacks to Quacts of health care to the truth about your favorite Starbucks drink.

Speaking about the post, the veteran’s heart doctor treated a drug usually prescribed to help children perform better in tests and sports – a phenomenon he calls “abuse of children on the border line”.

“There are two classes of stimulants for ADHD,” Levine said.

“One is the rital-derived drugs called methylfenidate-ritalin and concerta are the most popular-and the other is the amphetamine class as adderall and vyvanse.”

Both species, he says, “increase blood norepinephrine levels, which can lead to slightly higher blood pressure and mild increased risk of arrhythmias.”

This may sound small-but new research and shared sense questions have a levine that sounds the alarm.

“FDA never did their job”

“In 2011, FDA used a study to confirm the safety of these stimulating drugs and they finish-midis young adults and middle-aged- [that there is] No increase in cardiovascular events, ”Levine said.

“What if a child gets this for 20 years? FDA never commented on this. Or an elderly patient gets this – or someone at risk, people with congenital heart conditions like a bicuspid aortic valve, which 1.5% of the population is and are at risk for aortic aneurysms? FDA never worked their work.”

And now? Long -term data have begun to support it.

“In April 2024, they find out that when you follow them for eight years, healthy young people aged 20 to 40, they have a 57% higher risk than young people healthy not in these medications,” he said.

“It concludes that 1/500 of these patients was diagnosed with a cardiomyopathy.”

Millions of children may be at risk

Levine, who also addressed the topic in Tiktok, noted that the large volume of Americans taking these medications could be a marked time bomb – recent data suggest that one in nine children these days have been diagnosed with ADHD.

“The number of young adults for this since childhood can be important,” he said.

But it’s not just children – a recent study shows that one in 17 adults are diagnosed with ADHD, and some experts ask whether all these cases are legal.

Levine said people are taking it without an ADHD diagnosis, just to help them “focus better on exams or perform better in sports.”

Plus, he added, medicines can have a greater risk for adults who may have hypertension or underlying heart disease.

Telehealth services have overloaded the trend, Levine warned – potentially making medicines available to anyone who has a credit card and WiFi access.

According to Levine, what is missing is the comprehensive care of mental health and the careful consideration of non -stimulating options.

A void in simple view

Levine emphasized that these medications are taken seriously – even prohibited – in certain areas unless an official diagnosis is established.

“In Olympic sports you have to apply for an exception and demonstrate that you have ADHD otherwise you are disqualified,” he said.

“One might think there are some who claim a diagnosis to improve their ability and concentration on a sport.”

But what now? For Levine, the message is simple: ADHD should be treated absolutely – but with more care, more supervision and less blind confidence in the pills.
