A pair of pedestrians were recently prevented from an ancient deadly weapon in a quiet and most impossible place: a beach in Poland.
Artifacti, a 2,500-year-old camera, was found on March 30th.
The Poland Museum for Land History Kamieńska announced the discovery in a Facebook post that day later.
The weapon was found in clay gravel on the Baltic Sea coast.
The museum credited by Jacek Ukowski and Katarzyna Herdzik for the discovery along with the latest storms that helped bring weapons to the light.
“Not often nature reveals to us the secrets of the distant past,” said the posting of the organization, which was translated from Polish into English.
“And yet, this is exactly what happened over the Baltic Sea.”
Photos posted by the museum reveal the intricate details of the weapon, which include the moon and crosses of the crescent resembling the stars.
“Dagger was stored in excellent condition, which makes him one of the most valuable findings of his kind in Poland,” the museum said.
“The glove is finished with a strong head and decorated with an alternative ornament that descends on the blade.”
The museum added that its experts are still not sure what the weapon is used, but the object will undergo an intense examination in the future.
“Surface decorations can show links to a solar cult and suggest that the dagger had a ritual significance,” the organizations noted.
“It could also have been equipped with a rich warrior.”
She added, “This dagger is definitely a work of art and an example of a high level of metallurgy. Perhaps it has been imported and thrown into one of the workshops in Southern Europe.”
Herdzik told the museum the finding was completely unexpected.
“I didn’t expect to make such a great discovery, but the moment I saw this article, I just knew it could be something worth it,” she said.
The Museum of History of the Earth Kamieńska also thanked Herdzik and Ukowski for “their willingness and quick reaction”.
“Thanks to their immediate reporting, this extraordinary finding was properly secured and rescued for future generations,” the museum wrote.
“Their attitude sets a model for a responsible approach to cultural heritage and preserving monuments.”
