If you are not taking care of your skin, a doctor warns, the bad look is the least of your concerns.
“Most people think it’s deep skin-skin is really its thing, and your health is perfectly special,” Toronto-based plastic surgeon told The post, Dr. Cory Goldberg.
Or, he said, they may think that their skin condition is just an indicator of what is happening inside – for example, pale appearance can be a sign of something more serious.
“But it’s a lot, much more than that.
“In previous years, as more and more evidence has come forward, it is clear that the skin is not just an indicator – it is an absolute leader.
According to Goldberg, there are three main ways your skin health can mainly affect the rest of your body, playing a role in everything, from depression to Alzheimer’s.
And by taking steps like sunlight and moisturizing will not only keep you look younger – they can actually keep your body and brain younger, too.
Mummy cells can spread – and get old all your organs
Elderly cells – often referred to as “mummy cells” – develop everywhere in the body, including the skin. They are a major factor in aging.
“The reason they are called mummy cells is because they don’t copy,” Goldberg explained. “They stop repeating and letting all these real inflammatory, toxic intermediaries.”
But they don’t just stay where they start: they spread, traveling elsewhere in the body and causing issues there.
“They actually grow old organs. [because of] Things are released into the bloodstream. “
A study by the Mayo clinic published in October confirmed it only, revealing that aging cells on the skin can affect other organs, including the brain, perhaps contributing to physical and cognitive decline.

Oxidative stress: a propeller of cancer and alzheimer
“The third way skin and domestic health are very related is oxidizing stress,” Goldberg said, describing it as “the pollution your body produces.”
While most of this oxidizing stress is produced internally, it can also be caused by external factors such as food, smoking, sun and air pollution.
“Our skin, so far, is exposed to the greater amount of oxidative stress,” he added.
This can lead to a variety of issues, from aging skin and sleep problems to heart disease, kidney disease and cancer. It even plays a role in neurological diseases like Alzheimer’s.
Goldberg showed a 2022 study that found that inflammatory skin disorders and dysfunction of skin barriers can lead to brain dysfunction due to inflammatory proteins in the body that make their way to the brain.
Meanwhile, researchers at the University of California San Francisco showed that hydration of your skin could have obvious benefits for brain aging.
In their study, a group of adults from 58 to 95 years old were tasked with hydrating their bodies twice a day. After a month, their blood was measured for protein associated with age -related inflammatory diseases. Their levels matched those of people in their 30s.
In addition to moisturizing, Goldberg says taking antioxidants is also necessary to combat oxidative stress.
You can get them in your diet through foods like nuts, berries, carrots, tomatoes, artichokes and dark chocolate. They are also available in additional form, its favorite is glisodin.
