It seems new moms are adopting a daily habit they don’t even realize.
A mom has asked the ultimate internet parenting question:
“Why do we ask our partners if it’s okay to shower?”
“The Biggest Bread”
Gab Redwine, a new mom, has taken to TikTok to provide a reality check we didn’t know we needed.
“The biggest look for myself. I feel like I have to relieve my husband from seeing the baby,” she revealed.
While haphazardly folding laundry, she discovered a brutal truth of parenting.
“I’ll say, ‘Hey, excuse me, do you just have a minute? I just want to take a quick shower. I’ll be two minutes and be right back. Is it okay?’ And he’s always like, ‘Yeah… go take a shower,’” Gab said.
Despite her husband’s lopsided approval, her mother’s guilt still lingers.
“I’m like, ‘NO… I can skip! I can overcome! We are good! It’s good!’” she said
“Why am I like this?”
The ingredients of societal norms, mother guilt and default parenting have concocted the perfect recipe for self-doubt among mothers around the world.
Captioning her video, Gab wrote: “I’m the problem, but am I alone here?”
She certainly isn’t.
“Patriarchy”
The comments section was flooded with moms echoing her sentiments.
“My husband is literally such a good, hands-on dad who never complains and takes initiative, yet I still feel this way,” said one commenter.
“It’s patriarchy,” wrote another.
“The worst part is you can’t explain that feeling to your husband because he doesn’t understand,” added a third.
Other mothers shared similar experiences:
“I asked my husband if I could take a walk while the baby was napping,” revealed one mother.
“I found myself apologizing to her tonight when the baby was difficult at bedtime,” admitted another.
“I realized I was in the other room for 20 minutes yesterday and I came out saying, ‘I’m back! I’m sorry!’” shared a third mother.
Some even joked that the feeling disappears when grandma is on duty.
Gab reflected further in the comments:
“Why do we feel like the baby is …the baby is our fault?” she asked.
